IPSA is backed by strong team with experience in power generation projects around the world. Its associate companies, Independent Power Corporation PLC (“IPC”) and Rurelec PLC (“Rurelec”), have owned or developed power generation projects in Central Asia, Latin America, the Middle East and the US.
IPSA’s management team has substantial experience of the power generation industry in South Africa. As IPC it was the only British power company to participate in the privatisation tender for the Kelvin power plant in Johannesburg in 2000 and was shortlisted against the eventual winner, AES Corporation. It has since been invited to tender for numerous projects and has advised on a dedicated steam and electricity production facility in the South Africa pulp and paper industry. IPSA has established offices in Johannesburg and Westville staffed by senior employees, and has a project team of experienced engineers dedicated to our power projects.
The completion in 2007 of IPSA’s Newcastle plant was South Africa’s first gas-fired independent power project (IPP), first gas-fired IPP combined heat and power project (CHP) and first gas-fired IPP combined cycle gas turbine project (CCGT).
